There’s something truly special about getting to document a family’s journey over the years, and the Shelton Family has been one of those incredible families I've had the pleasure to photograph since 2021. Watching their story unfold and capturing their milestones has been a heartwarming experience. Last year, I had the honor of photographing their 10-year wedding anniversary, and this year, I got to celebrate another beautiful chapter in their lives—their maternity session. The Shelton Family is about to welcome a little princess, or as their adorable shirts say, they're adding another "gamer" to the squad!

For this session, we chose the enchanting Enid A. Haupt Garden in Washington D.C., a spot that perfectly reflected the joy and elegance of this growing family. Nestled just behind the Smithsonian Castle, this hidden gem offers a lush oasis in the heart of the city, with vibrant blooms, manicured lawns, and historic architecture creating a stunning backdrop for photos. In the summertime, especially around sunset, the garden transforms into a magical setting, with golden light filtering through the trees and casting a warm glow over the flowers.

As we strolled through the garden, the atmosphere was serene and filled with the soft hum of nature—a perfect contrast to the bustling city just beyond its gates. The summer blooms were in full swing, with colorful flowers lining the pathways and creating a picturesque setting for the Sheltons’ maternity photos. The golden hour light was simply perfect, illuminating the garden’s beautiful features and adding a dreamy touch to each shot.

The Sheltons were dressed in coordinating outfits that showcased their playful spirit and love for each other. Their shirts playfully announced the exciting news: another "gamer" was joining their squad! It was a sweet, personal touch that added an extra layer of joy to the session. Their little one, full of energy and excitement, was also part of the fun, eagerly anticipating the arrival of the new baby sister.

One of my favorite moments was capturing the family in front of the garden’s iconic Moongate Garden, with its circular openings and serene water features. The reflections in the water, coupled with the soft, warm light of the setting sun, created a tranquil and intimate scene. The Sheltons embraced, laughing and enjoying the peaceful surroundings as they celebrated this new chapter in their lives.

It offers a beautiful blend of natural and architectural beauty, with each corner revealing a new and stunning backdrop. The lush greenery, vibrant floral displays, and elegant design of the garden all come together to create a space that feels both timeless and welcoming. Seeing the Shelton Family grow over the years has been an absolute joy.
